Hey there! Welcome to my corner of the internet.
Honestly this post should have been written ages ago. I am currently halfway through my semester abroad and only now have I decided to start writing about my experiences. Oh well. Better late than never.
If I had to set a goal for this blog it would be to make it a time capsule. But I mean a time capsule in multiple senses of the word. A while back I was watching a youtuber's Q&A video and someone asked her if she liked to watch
back any of her old videos. Her answer is burned into my brain as I've been reminded of it every time I thought about starting this blog. She said she hated looking back at her official channel work despite putting more effort into those posts, but she loved looking back at her daily vlogs because they are preservations of the best moments of her life. That's what I want this blog to be for me. What she said was #relatable for me because I always hated reading back my academic work (like I barely proofread anything), but rereading things I wrote for fun brings back memories of the context in which they were written. I want to be able to look back on the things I felt were worth scribbling down. My own handmade souvenirs. Secondly, I want to create capsules for whoever reads this. The moments that inspire me to write the most are the moments that make
me feel most grounded and human - having a girls night in, eating a fantastic meal, feeling a jolt of adrenaline at a horror movie. I want to recreate those moments for people.
If I had to set a goal for myself it would be to post something at least once a week. We'll see.
What makes you think anyone will want to read your blog, dummy?
Nothing really. That's why I still feel weird about calling it a blog. That word tends to imply the presence of an audience. Of course I'd love to have lots of people reading my thoughts and opinions and discus them with me but that's not always realistic. So as of right now this is just my journal, left open on a table for passers-by to peruse.
And don't worry, this isn't going to be anything serious. The first moment I thought I was capable of writing for a general public was about a year ago when I uploaded a series of posts on my private Instagram, recounting a series of unfortunate events I experienced when trying to fly from the US to Europe. I was miserable when I was writing the captions but I had fun with the comedic style of writing and it cheered me up. It was really funny (if I do say so myself). The response was surprisingly enthusiastic, so why not do it all the time?
But there are so many travel blogs already...
So what? The great thing about travel blogs is that they can provide 360 degree perspectives of the same thing. You know how many pieces of art have been created describing the city of Paris or New York? Hundreds of thousands. And not one of them is exactly the same. And anyway, I wouldn't say this is a travel blog per se, as I said, it's a journal. Who knows what kind of twisted inner thoughts I'll put on here. But travel does have a way of getting the creative juices flowin'. So get ready for lots of deep thoughts and transportation horror stories.
Hop on board because this delayed train is (finally) leaving the station!
